User Profile
Greater Boston Zen Center is a Soto Zen sangha based in Cambridge, MA. Programs are currently being offered both in-person and on-line (via Zoom).

GBZC offers regular opportunities for practicing Zen Buddhist meditation as well as periodic non-residential meditation retreats in Cambridge and multi-day residential meditation retreats at other locations in New England. GBZC also usually offers book and precept study groups and classes, and LGBTQIA+ and POC sitting groups, though these are currently on hiatus.

Our practices derive from the Soto tradition begun by Master Eihei Dogen as well as (the Harada-Yasutani curriculum of) koan introspection. We have received these through the lineages of Robert Aitken Roshi and Taizan Maezumi Roshi. Organizational and financial matters are overseen by a Board of Directors.

The Cambridge Zendo is located on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Massachusetts Tribe.

During weather emergencies, in-person practice is cancelled when the Cambridge Libraries (check here) are closed. Should precautions become required again, these will be listed in the Cambridge Zendo Covid Status and Guidelines.
