History of the temple
1995 : Creation of a Zen dojo in Vannes (Kai In Dojo, Dojo of the Ocean Seal) by Dôkan and Seijô Crépon.
2003 : First recognition as a temple of the Sôtô school , takes the name of Kokaiji (Temple of the ancient ocean)
2010 : Acquisition of the current premises with a Sôdô for the practice of zazen and meals, and a Hattô for ceremonies.
2012 : Official recognition of the temple with the Shinzan ceremony of Abbot Dôkan Crépon, in the presence of Reverend Yuzan Otsuka Roshi.
2017 : Kokaiji becomes a direct branch of Daihonzan Sôjiji with the arrival of Reverend Shinzan Egawa Zenji, twenty-fifth Abbot of Sôjiji, who becomes the spiritual founder of Kokaiji.
2020 : Expansion of the temple with the creation of a Shûryo (study room for kesa sewing and other activities).
