	Houston Buddhist Vihara Houston TX info@georgiamedi		Founded in 1988, Houston Buddhist Vihara is the largest Sri Lankan Buddhist temple in Texas. The Vihara serves members of various nationalities. Members are predominantly of Sri Lankan origin. Monthly Dhamma talks, multi-day meditation retreats are held for members. Sunday Dhamma school is the main attraction. Currently more than 75 students attend the Dhamma school. Vesak and Kathina ceremonies are the major Buddhist related events celebrated at the Vihara. On January 1st of each year a blessing service is held. In April of each year a Sri Lankan New Year celebration is held by the students of the Dhamma school. Instructions in Dhamma and Practice open to all seekers and interested Meditation and Dhamma Discussions: Every Friday starting at 7:30 pm Abhidhamma Class: first and third Saturday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m, (ending arount 1:00pm after lunch) Public lectures of invited guests: frequency - dependent on availability of speakers

They provide an introduction to meditation and support for starting to practice meditation, mindfulness, and applying Buddhist teachings in daily life. Some classes have fees and some are by donation, however no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. These classes are great for everyone!

	Wat Buddharatanaram Keller TX info@georgiamedit		Wat Buddharatanaram is a large (~20 acres) Dhammayut monastery on the outskirts of Dallas. Its centerpiece is an impressive Bodh Gaya-style chedi, inside of which is a memorial hall housing the viewable relics of nine Dhammayut monks said to have attained enlightenment in the last century. Among the relics are those of Luang Pu Sao, Luang Pu Mun, Luang Ta Mahā Bua, Luang Pu Lui, Luang Pu Khao, Luang Pu Juan, Luang Pu Tate, Luang Por Chob, and a last whose name escapes me. I believe that Wat Buddharatanaram is of the Luang Por Chob lineage. A monk I know—borne of a Thai mother and an American father—took temporary ordination at Wat Buddharatanaram as a merit-making gesture for his mother. He never disrobed, and 16 years later he remains a monk in Texas.
