	Dharma Drum Mountain - New Jers New Brunswick NJ :info@ddmb		The founder, Master Shengyan─A brief biography Master Shengyan was born in Nantong, Jiangsu Province in 1930. In 1943, he became a monk at Guangjiao Zen Temple in Langshan. In 1949, he joined the army and followed the Nationalist Government to Taiwan. After serving for ten years, he became a monk again under the leadership of Dongchu. Master Shengyan spent six years in seclusion in the Meinong Mountains of Kaohsiung, and then went to Japan for further studies at Risho University in Tokyo, where he received a doctorate in literature in 1975. Later, he was invited to the United States to promote Buddhism, and served successively as director and vice president of the American Buddhist Association, abbot of Dajue Temple in New York, and president of the Sutra Translation Institute in Taiwan. After Master Dongchu passed away in 1978, Master Shengyan returned to Taiwan from the United States to inherit the legal affairs. Inspired by the enthusiasm of his American disciples for seeking the Dharma, Master Shengyan founded the "Zen Center" in New York, USA in 1979. Later, it expanded and moved its location and changed its name to "Higashichu Zen Temple". Since then, Master Shengyan has regularly traveled between the United States and Taiwan to spread his teachings.
	Dharma Drum Mountain - Vancouve Richmond, Vancouver BC :in		About Us Dharma Drum Vancouver Center (DDVC) was founded by the renowned teacher and scholar of Chan Buddhism, Chan Master Sheng Yen. The history of the Center can be traced back to the venerable master’s first visit to Vancouver in 1994. At that time, a small group of practitioners gathered, and after his departure, they committed themselves to continuing to practice. Over the years, this small group grew into a larger community, and the need of a new center became evident by 2004. After two years of construction, the new center began operating under the guidance of resident monastics in the Dharma Drum lineage of Chan Buddhism. We are located at 8240 No. 5 Road, a well-known multi-faith community in Richmond, south of Vancouver City. The Center is maintained by staff and volunteers who, together with our strong faculty of monastic and lay teachers, aim to provide a home for Buddhist practice and learning for everyone. Classes in meditation and Buddhist teachings, retreats ranging from one to seven days, ritual practice, drumming ensemble, reading circle, and family activities are offered all year round to meet your interests and needs. Our mission is to share the Dharma Drum lineage’s teaching of Chan Buddhism, and to help people find freedom and peace within their own minds. This is achieved through the three practices of ethical conduct, meditation, and cultivating compassion and wisdom. 	Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist A Wheeling IL :[email protected]		Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association Chicago Chapter (DDMBA-Chicago) was established in 1993. We are a local affiliate chapter of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) Taiwan, and are a registered non-profit charitable organization in the United States.
	Dharma Drum Mountain Davis Davis CA :[email protected]		Wade Davis has been described as "a rare combination of scientist, scholar, poet and passionate defender of all of life's diversity," an ethnographer, writer, photographer, and filmmaker, he holds degrees in anthropology and biology, and received his Ph.D. in ethno botany - all from Harvard University. In recent years his research efforts have taken him to East Africa, Tibet, Polynesia, Mali, Equatorial West Africa, New Guinea, Vanuatu, the Canadian Arctic Nunavut and Greenland. He is the author of ten books, including The Serpent and the Rainbow, One River and Light at the Edge of the World. Specially hosted by National Geograpgic in Taiwan at the Eslite Bookstore's flagstore in downtown Taipei, the three-hour dialogue took place in the videoconference room. Issues such as global warming, culture loss, conflict prevention and religious practice in Buddhism were touched on, under the lead of nationwide famous journalist, Ms. Sisy Chen. Many honorable guests also attended, including Venerable Guo Dong, the Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM), Chen Jianan, the President of DDM’s General Association of Dharma Upholders as well as DDM’s Venerables. The doctor surprised the audience by admitting he was a Buddhist and said although he had traveled the world so extensively over the years, this was his first time visiting Taiwan. He also said he was greatly delighted at having the wonderful opportunity to meet with the internationally recognized Chan master, Venerable Master Sheng Yen, known for spiritual enlightenment on critical issues facing the human race.

	Dharma Drum Mountain Melbourne Melbourne Victor :info@ddmb		Dharma Drum Mountain is a Melbourne community learning and living the Buddha's Teachings through the tradition of Chan Buddhism, as established by the late Chan Master Venerable Sheng Yen. Situated in Mitcham just under 30 minutes' drive from Melbourne CBD and easily accessible by train and via Eastlink. DDM Melbourne Chapter welcomes everyone regardless of faith and ethnic backgrounds. Activities include meditation sessions, dharma talks and workshops on Buddhist philosophy and retreats.
