Inspired by the teachings of Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh, the
Spartanburg Community of Mindfulness formed in 2009. We study and practice mindfulness and
meditation in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. Through practicing together, we aspire to cultivate our
ability to live deeply and compassionately every moment of daily life and to nourish these seeds in each
other. Our one-hour time together on Sunday afternoons will consist of silent sitting meditation, gentle
walking meditation, readings, and dharma talks and sharing. Our Sangha will be proactive in the community
by taking contributions on a weekly basis and donating to a local charity at the end of each month.
