Cham Shan Monastery

User Profile
Founded in 1906 by three monks visiting from Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland and was initially known simply as "The Big Hut". Today we'll be visiting Cham Shan Monastery 湛山寺 in Clearwater Bay. Cham Shan Buddhist Monastery and TempleComplex was originally founded in the early 1960s by monks from the Zhanshan Temple (Pinyin Pronunciation) in Qingdao, Shandong Province in Northern China. The complex has grown over the years to include many important statues of various Buddhas and a hall dedicated to Guanyin / 觀世音菩薩 one of the most revered characters in East Asian Buddhism. This temple also includes a bone relic, given to it by the Sri Lankan Government. Ghoulish, I know, but to the faithful very special. If we're luck we'll be invited to a vegetarian meal after their Dharma talk.
